Interview with Attu Medicine

The studio has an inescapable buzz as Attu Medicine gears up for her first release with a breakout victory single, Mama Africa. Our fans are excited, team is confident and Attu, well she has found an angle on herself as an artist. We sat down with her to ask a few questions about who she is and where she'd like to go.

Hi Attu, we’re thrilled to have a chance to work with you and learn more of your story. We feel that cross cultural collaborations can help develop emerging talent and build resilience for accomplishing larger goals, maybe you can briefly share a bit more about yourself and your goals? My name is Attupele Geofrey, born on July 31, 1991 in Iringa, Tanzania. I am a singer/vocalist and aspiring stage performer. I am mostly known as Attu Medicine.

That is a unique stage name, how do that come to be?

Family and friends would say my voice healed them, made them feel good, it was their medicine.

Do you feel music is a good way to show what you’re capable of, the different sides of who you are, as an artist and as a person? Yes, music is what defines me mostly, its the easiest way to express what I have to offer or deliver to the people/fans/community. Music sometimes helps me to express my inner emotions, life perspective and experiences as an artist and as a person, and representing many others like me. What is the biggest challenge for you regarding passions in music? My biggest challenge is my vision problems, I have a night blindness disability, so most of the time I have to be accompanied by someone. It's very challenging if I don't have anyone by my side. My sight problems also extend to when I am in busy places, I need someone to escort me because of my eye tracking issues. When it comes to recording, I have problems reading and writing on paper so I memorize my lyrics. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success? Integrity is the most important, the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Thank you Attu – are there other things that you’re currently focused on that you would like to share with Voice of Maasai fans? I am committed to my music career so I can support my family. I firmly believe that through music I can achieve success and utilize my talents as the bridge to cross to the bright side.

The hip-hop mama signifies her growing ambition on her new single, Mama Africa released Jan 24 on all global distribution platforms. Are you ready for the medicine?
